Woodworking with Tavi

Tavi Harwood is a self-taught woodworker with over 50 years of experience. She specializes in woodworking with whimsy, and is a master on the scroll saw.

Create your own Wooden Jigsaw Puzzle

This class is designed to get you comfortable behind the scroll saw, starting with essential practice cuts on plain wood to master the rhythm and speed of the machine.

Craft a Mini Box and Puzzle

You’ll learn to use a drill press and scroll saw to transform pre-laminated wood into a tiny, functional work of art.

Beginner Double Bevel Marquetry

Using the scroll saw and double bevel technique, you’ll cut domestic and exotic hardwood veneers to create a beautiful bird picture.

Intermediate Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles

Master intricate cuts and create "whimsy" pieces shaped like hearts, animals, and stars on premium Baltic birch plywood. Leave with a beautifully detailed, hand-cut puzzle to enjoy or gift. *Please note that you must take beginner puzzles to take this class.

Woodworking with Tom

Tom Parmelee is our Barn Manager. He was born in Minnesota and has lived in Chicago, Singapore, and North Idaho, where he ran his own cabinet and custom furniture shop. He recently moved to the Maryland area for the great schools for his daughter. Tom teaches beginner to intermediate woodworking classes, and he can also help you plan a private woodworking class or party.

Woodworking 101

Learn the basics of woodworking safety and tools. Walk away with a serving platter or custom clipboard!

Handled Step Stool

In this class you will go from rough lumber to a completed step stool complete with your own design choices. The stool is modeled after one built for my grandmother many years ago and is still in use in my own home.

Planters

Tis the season for gardening! Wouldn’t it be cool to show off your plants in a planter that you’ve made yourself? Participants will learn how to use the miter saw and adjoin cedar wood to make a structure for a plant approx. 14 x 14″.

Cutting Boards

In this two part class, participants will make their own cutting boards to use in their homes. Students will learn about different species of woods to use for food safe projects, how to join pieces of wood together, and different oils for sealing them.

Jim Prinkey is a woodturner with over 12 years of experience! He teaches beginner to advanced woodturning classes. Note that you must have taken a beginner class to progress to higher level classes.

Welding with Michael Guarraia

Michael Guarraia has over 20 years of experience welding. He operates his small business, MG Custom Lighting, where he repurposes old car parts into lamps.

Beginner Welding: Bird or Dragonfly

Learn the basics of Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding in this make-and-take class where you'll fabricate either a bird or dragonfly out of common kitchen utensils. Topics include welding safety, equipment, processes, technique, and basic metallurgical properties. No experience necessary, and suitable for anyone age 12 and older.

Parent/Child Welding 10+

Interested in some parent/child “bonding” time? Create a metal sculpture with your child!

Intermediate Welding

Extend the skills you learned in the beginner class by making more utensil-animals! You’ll likely be able to make two or three new animals in this class. All materials included, and we’ll talk a little more about the voltage and wire-feed settings of the machine, as well as how to set it up, and how to break it down. *Prerequisite: Beginner Welding.
