During this very timely topic, Certified Financial Planner Colin Meeks will be covering the following areas, including how to:

• Identify the best business structure for your business (ie, sole prop, LLC, S Corp, etc)

• Analyze the various tax deductible accounts available - IRAs, solo 401ks, SEP IRAs, HSAs, etc.

• Review other potential deductions.

And a few marketing tips and personal experiences, with a QA with Colin, who's been in the business for decades.

Bird Day at Manor Mill

Growing a Tea Garden with Spore & Seed: Mother's Day Class & Event with Tea & Pastries

Sunday, May 12, 11:30 - 1:30PM

Join Courtney of Spore and Seed for an afternoon of learning and leisure. The first portion of the class will be about growing a tea garden at your home. We'll discuss plant selection, care, post-harvest and storing plant material for tea.

The latter portion of class we will make a floral/herbal tea to enjoy along with sweets from local bakery Dough Run. Participants can sip and relax enjoying the grounds of Manor Mill. You will go home with a worksheet full of information and live plants.

Jane Austen Day with Manor Mill and the Jane Austen Society of North America

Saturday, May 18, 1-6pm

Join the Jane Austen Society of North America, Maryland Region and Manor Mill for an afternoon of scholarship and fun! The event begins at 1:00 pm with informative presentations on Austen’s first novel, Sense and Sensibility, sessions on her life, and the world she lived in. There will be period crafts and a Regency market place.

Adult day passes are $35 per person before April 18th. After April 18th, adult day passes will be $45 per person. Day passes for attendees under 18 are $15 per person.

Santa’s Workshop

Prep with the Head Elf to make an elf hat and design a toy out of wood -- then assemble it with the help of Santa himself! This is a rare moment to meet Santa as he hustles in his shop to get everything ready for the big day! Best for ages 4-10. All materials included. Hot glue guns will be used and parent supervision is required. Refreshments will also be on hand for a great morning of activity!

Learn the distressful story of the Toymaker during this haunted, flashlight tour throughout the Manor Mill property. This tour will be including walking on uneven ground and in some wooded areas and is not for the faint of heart!

B-Side Man: a Monologue Reading by Alonzo LaMont

One African-American man speaks on his journeys, transformations, segues, stories, love, loss, dark days, belly roll laughter and that goddamn playwriting bug! Storytelling that could bewitch Quasimodo! Storytelling that could cure erectile dysfunction --- and then bring it back!

Horror Night at Manor Mill

Come out for a spooky, candlelit event with a film screening, live music, local lore, and a full band performance! The evening will begin with a story about The Toymaker, told by Angelo Otterbein.

Filmmakers Conor & the Wild Hunt will then be screening their original work, "Where the Seams have Frayed", and performing music under the screen as the pit band. The film is about four generations of one family and the ghosts that have haunted them in a house passed down over the years. Get a taste here.

After the film they’ll play a full band set, including some classic Halloween themed covers.

FISH DAY

A day filled with all things fish! We had have several local organizations participating throughout the day from educational talks, hands on demos, videos, live trout, artists creating beautiful work such as glass blowing and wood burning, and much more!

Austen enthusiasts lead book talks on her “big six” novels (ranging from “Sense and Sensibility: God Help the Mister that Comes betwee Me and My Sister” to “Persuasion: Setting Boundaries and Self-Care”). Others explored Austen’s medical woes, her poetry, what she ate, and her lasting effect on publishing. Attendees found out how to dress properly from Chemise (slip) to Shawl or Meet Mr. Collins. Katherine Fahey, award winning puppeteer, is one of the pioneers reviving of the art form of crankies, a form of visual storytelling involving a scroll of artwork in a box. Katherine’s crankies incorporate intricate papercutting, shadow puppetry, singing, and storytelling. They are based on stories and songs as far reaching as legends of northernmost Quebec and the swamps of Louisiana to her hometown streets of Baltimore. Accompanying her will be artist, puppeteer, and foley artist Daniel Van Allen.
