I graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1977 with a BFA. My focus in college was printmaking and black-and-white photography. After graduation, I worked in commercial screen printing to fund my fine art prints. I soon began creating graphite drawings based on my photographs, which led me to explore painting. Although I am largely self-taught as a painter, the two greatest influences on my work have been Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth.

The most significant takeaway from my art education has been my composition and use of space. I have worked in both watercolor and acrylic, with the latter now being my primary medium. Acrylic allows me to build texture and depth in my paintings. Whether painting a stone wall, tree bark, or the weathered paint on an old barn, I strive to use texture and detail to bring the work to life.

I spend hours sketching before picking up a brush, adding, subtracting, and rearranging elements until I achieve the composition that best tells the story. I maintain an electric portfolio that reflects my diverse interests. I love the challenge of painting subjects I've never attempted before, and the excitement of watching the painting evolve, wondering if I can bring it to life.
