Nieves Saah

My name is Nieves Saah. I was born in Bilbao, Spain. At the age of 12 I began taking art classes in my hometown. Arriving in the USA in 1972 I continued my art education at American University in Washington, D.C. and MICA in Baltimore, obtaining a BFA and graduating Summa Cum Laude.

My dream was always to be able to paint for all my entire life. I work with oils and spatulas over several layers of paint, often mixing colors of the fresh paint until the work is completed.

My paintings have been exhibited throughout the USA and Europe. In 2012 while being in the hospital for a stem cell transplant I was having a solo show at Galleria Dix in Helsinki. The Ambassador of Spain to Finland represented me at the opening.

During COVID lockdown I fell and broke my right wrist. I started to paint with my left hand the second day I was home from the hospital. That was when I started painting fish. An art life is not a life where you can take sick days or ever think of retiring.
